Microsoft Corp.MSFT, co-founder Bill Gateshas expressed his confidence in the leadership of his company including CEO Satya Nadellaand President Brad Smith,amid the tech giants ongoing federal investigation over security issues.
What Happened: Gates, in a recent interview with CBSs “Face the Nation,” praised the current leadership at Microsoft, which has been under federal scrutiny following a series of high-profile hacking incidents last year. Gates currently serves the company as an advisor.
“Im very proud that the leadership people like Satya Nadella, Brad Smith are just doing a great job there. Security is constantly a challenge,” he said.
“You know Microsofts got a great record of working with the government on these issues. And we have some amazing security products. So you know, that dialogue of how, even as the bad guys get smarter, how do we stay ahead is an important dialogue.”

Why It Matters: Microsoft has recently faced criticism over its security measures. In April, the Cyber Safety Review Board (CSRB) found that security lapses at Microsoft led to a 2023 cyberattack linked to China. This incident compromised the accounts of high-ranking US officials.
In May, escalating tech tensions between the U.S. and China led Microsoft to urge hundreds of its China-based employees to consider relocating.
Most recently, in June, Microsoft President Smith was called to testify before a U.S. House of Representatives Homeland Security panel regarding the companys security measures after breaches by Russian and Chinese hackers.
