Worldwide shipments of personal computers (PCs) totalled 64.9 million units in 2Q24, rising 3% YoY, the second consecutive quarter of growth, mainly due to a low base in the same period last year, although weakness in the Mainland market continued to weigh on the overall performance, according to a report by market research firm IDC. Excluding China, global shipments rose by more than 5% YoY.
Among brands, LENOVO GROUP (00992.HK) 0.000 (0.000%) Short selling $96.47M; Ratio 17.625% shipped the most units at about 14.7 million, up 3.7% YoY, with a 22.7% market share. It is followed by, in order, HP (HPQ.US) , Dell (DELL.US) , Apple (AAPL.US) , and Acer. Apple shipped 5.7 million units, with a market share of 8.8%.
IDC pointed out that personal computers, like other technology sectors, face external headwinds in the short term, but shipments have grown for two consecutive quarters. AI computers have boosted market sentiment, the replacement cycle within the business sector has become more important, and non-AI PC purchases have led to more positive market news.
